Registering your domain name...
Once you've purchased a domain name, you have to register it. The registration process protects your domain name; as long as you pay for (and continue to renew) the name, no one else can use it.
Domain name registration prices vary, but should be $25 per year or less. [If Google's AdSense is doing its job, there should be ads on this page for domain name registrars.] Before you choose one, be sure that you read and understand the fine print; for example, make sure you will be the legal owner of your domain name.
There are companies, like WSM Domains, who charge a little more to register domain names, but they include additional services, like access to the tools to manage and renew your domain (or domains) online, automated notifications, etc.
Many ISPs (Internet Service Providers--website hosting companies) can handle domain name registration for you, for a fee, in order to speed things along. They often offer the best deals on registration because they are counting on you to sign up as a hosting customer as well. Be aware that while it might be convenient to register and host with the same company, there is absolutely NO requirement to purchase both services from any one service provider.
