Getting Started...
The first logical step in creating your own website
is choosing and registering your domain name. Of course,
not having a domain name won't keep you from creating your
site. You can develop your site anytime, but you won't have
an "address" to tell your friends, clients, and/or customers
until you get your domain name.
A domain name
is the main part of the "user
friendly" address you see in your internet browser
software's address bar, near the top of the screen. It's
called a friendly name because it's more easily read (and
remembered) than the actual IP (Internet Protocol) address
that identifies your site's location on the network. Every
computer has its own IP address. An IP address is a sequence
of numbers which identifies every computer connected to
the internet.

A website's (Navy League of the U.S.) domain name is visible
in the browser's address bar.
