What is a Personal Trainer?

A personal trainer is a coach, an educator, a role model, and a major source of motivation and encouragement to people who want to achieve their physical fitness goals.

What's Driving the Demand for Personal Trainers?

Personal training has evolved significantly over the past 30 years. No longer is it only the rich and famous that employ personal trainers. People from almost every demographic are willing to retain professional fitness advice. Due to the dramatic increase in the popularity of health and fitness programs, personal training continues to be among the fastest growing of all careers.

Unprecedented advancements in medicine and technology have combined to significantly lengthen the average human lifespan. However, many of those same technological advances have made our society sedentary and unhealthy. In addition, food is abundant and, while our ancestors had to struggle every day to keep from starving, we are faced with high -quantity/low-quality food choices. Our bodies were designed to move and to eat natural foods. The bottom line is that our society, although living longer, is certainly not living healthier.

On the positive side, people are becoming more informed about safe and effective ways to attain a fit, healthy lifestyle. We are increasingly rejecting the exaggerated claims of quick fixes and magic pills offered through infomercials. Many people now realize that, to achieve their goals, they need direction and professional guidance. Personal trainers are more in demand now than ever; and the need will only become greater as trainers seek to bridge the gap between fitness and medicine.
