Joseph Trickett
(August 18, 1755 - October 15, 1805)
Joseph Trickett,
son of Thomas and Hanna (Turner) Trickett, was born August
18, 1755, near Tower Hill in London, England. Joseph served
an apprenticeship as a Silversmith and was educated in, and
professed the doctrines of, the Church of England. Soon after
he came to America, in 1780, he renounced his ministry in the
Church of England and sided with the Colonists.
Joseph married
Margaret in Hampshire County, Virginia, on April 9, 1782. Shortly
thereafter, they settled in Monongalia County, Virginia, on a farm on
Joe's Run near the little town of Smithtown, about twelve miles
south of Morgantown.
Joseph taught
school and, from 1796 to 1805, served as Commissioner of Revenue.
Joseph's will
was dated August 6, 1805. Among the children listed on his
estate settlement deed was my great great great grandfather, James
Trickett. |
