Glenn Ford
Gwyllyn Samuel
Newton (Glenn) Ford's birthday is May 1, 1916. His father,
Newton, was a railway conductor on the line between Montreal
and Quebec City, Canada. He began acting at the age of
four, in a community theatre production of 'Tom Thumb's Wedding.'
In 1923, when Ford was 7, the family moved to Venice, California,
where Glenn ultimately pursued an acting career.
In
addition to his stellar acting career, Ford
served with distinction in the Navy and the Marines in
WWII. He also
served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the
Third Marine Amphibious Force. Among
his medals and commendations are the Medal of
Honor presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the
Medaille de la France Libre for the liberation of France;
two commendation medals from the US Navy; and the Vietnamese
Legion of Merit. |
